Slow down to succeed
This week, the only wisdom I have to share is this: slow down if you’re going too fast.
“How we spend our days is how we spend our lives.”
- Annie Dillard
How do you know you’re going too fast? Overwhelm.
- Overwhelmed mind: thoughts out of control - preoccupied with regrets over the past, anxiety about the future
- Overwhelmed body: tension, fatigue, can’t relax, can’t sleep, health problems.
You may also notice that you show up late, you make excuses you don’t really believe, your kids and loved ones are constantly disappointed – drama and arguments.
Most importantly: you cut down on self-care and try to get more done in a frenzy.
What does overwhelm do to you?
- It kills your creativity – goodbye bright ideas and resilience
- It stops you from enjoying the moment and what you already have
Not goal obsession, not addictions (drinking / eating / working / social media), not escapism and certainly not blaming others.
Get real. Slow down. Make space.
“It's necessary to be slightly underemployed if you are to do something significant.”
- James D. Watson. Nobel Laureate in Physiology and Medicine
It’s counterintuitive as your instinct is to keep running on the treadmill. But you know deep down that you’re going nowhere.
As you slow down, you’ll notice the toxic thoughts in your head that drive you into overwhelm (I’m not good enough, I have to prove myself, I can’t let people down). By noticing them, they start to loosen their grip on you and you start to get a grip on life again.
That’s how Transformational Coaching works. Extractive thought surgery. Your self-imposed limitations are busted. And then you’re free to fulfil your highest potential.
What are you believing in this moment that doesn’t serve you?
Have a great weekend,
